Srinagar, June 19: A massive fire that raged at Shalimar on city outskirts last night resulted in gutting of 15 shops.
An official of the Fire and Emergency Services Department said that fifteen shed type shops were gutted completely in main market near famous Shalimar Garden during night hours. “After we received fire call, we rushed fire tenders to the spot and started dousing operation that continued for several hours,” he said, adding that after hectic efforts the fire was controlled and prevented from spreading further.

The official said that the fire left 15 shops damaged along with goods and material and the losses amount to lakhs of rupees. He said that the cause of the fire is being ascertained by police and so far it is not clear what led to the massive inferno. “However there was no loss of life or injury to anyone,” he added.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) led by its senior-vice president Manzoor Ahmad Bhat visited Shalimar to express his sympathy and solidarity with fire affected traders. He expressed deep sorrow over the huge loss of property in a tragic fire incident on behalf of KTMF president Mohammad Yaseen Khan and sough compensation for the fire victims.
