SAMBA, Dec 21: Two shops including one cloth house and one Hardware and Machinery shop and a Santro Car were fully damaged and three other adjoin shops partially damaged in a devastating fire at Vijaypur market late last night.
According to the eye witness the fire broke out late last night around 2:30 am and two shops were completely damaged in it while the three storied building of Cloth House also collapsed and the fire also engulfed the adjoining Hard Ware building and it too was damaged completely. Besides, three other adjacent shops were partially damaged in the devastating fire.
The impact of fire was so strong that the blaze touched the sky and engulfed a Santro car parked near by. All efforts of the public who gathered in Vijaypur town to control the blaze failed. Later 15 fire tenders from Samba, Bari-Brahmana and Gangyal were pressed into service to control the fire and they succeeded after a long struggle, said eye witness.
The victims whose shops were damaged said that they have suffered a heavy loss.
The owner of Vishal Exclusive (cloth house) Guruasra Mal @ Nikki Mahajan residents of ward number 8 Vijaypur and M/s Sardari Lal-Sat Pal Machinery and Hardware store owner Ved Prakash residents of Dhamore Jakh said they tried their best but failed to save their goods.
Vijaypur Police has registered the case in this regard for further investigation. However the cause of the fire was not known.
The Santro car bearing registration number JK21-1661 which was also damaged in the fire belonged to Sushil Sharma, son of Khem Raj Sharma residents of Ward No. 10 Vijaypur.
