SRINAGAR, July 30: At least 80 people including 30 police and para-military CRPF personnel were injured today as violent clashes continued in Kashmir with shutdown entering 22nd day and curfew continuing in parts of Kashmir.
A strict curfew was imposed in Old City, Maisuma and Batamaloo areas of Srinagar city here to prevent violence and shutdown paralysed life in Kashmir. Curfew continued in parts of South Kashmir and at other places there were restrictions on the assembly of people.
A mob pelted stones at the cavalcade of Education Minister Naeem Akhtar at Shilvat in Sumbal area of Bandipora district today but he escaped unhurt. Reports said that the Minister was on way to Bandipora but had to return as there were protests going on at Shilvat.
At least 65 people including 20 police and 7 CRPF personnel were injured in North Kashmir during clashes that broke out at over a dozen places today.
Reports said that clashes broke out at several places in North Kashmir including Kralpora, Lalpora and Trehgam areas of Kupwara; Papchan, Ajas, Nadihal, SK Payeen, SK Bala areas of Bandipora; Khanpora, Sheeri, Palhalan, Putkhah, Sangrama, Amargarh, Chankhan Sopore and Omar market in Sopore areas of Baramulla district. They said that the protesters pelted stones at police and CRPF deployed at these places and security forces fired tear smoke shells to disperse them.
In South Kashmir’s Shopian area, protesters attacked Special Operations Group of police camp at Imam Sahib and tried to ransack it. The police fired on protesters injuring three persons including a woman. They were referred to Srinagar for treatment. In Shopian, protesters pelted stones at the house of MLA Shopian last evening. However, he was not present there.
Reports said that protests erupted in Tral, parts of Pulwama, Kulgam and Anantnag, in South Kashmir in which around 10 persons sustained injuries. Police and CRPF fired tearsmoke shells to disperse the protesters.
Separatist leader Yaseen Malik, who was arrested early this month was produced before the court today. He has been sent to Central Jail Srinagar.
In the meanwhile, Valley observed shutdown, protests and curfew for 22nd day today. Schools and colleges, despite summer vacation having ended, remained closed as no students and hardly any teachers turned up. The attendance in the Government offices was negligible in Srinagar city and other parts of Kashmir valley.
The train services between Banihal and Baramulla remained disrupted for 20th day today and major roads and Highways also remained shut.
The shops, business establishments and most of the banks remained shut with only some shops selling essentials opened in the early morning and late evening and people were seen busy in buying essentials.
The prepaid cell phone services and mobile internet continued to remain blocked across Valley and only BSNL broadband internet services are functional.
