KATHUA, Mar 6: One barati was roasted alive after a bus carrying baratis caught fire at village Dolian, Kotepunnu in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district this evening.
All the baratis had come down from the bus and the ill fated person who happens to be a mentally retarded man was left in bus as he was unable to move properly.

He has been identified as Arun Kumar, son of Kartar Chand, resident of village Channgran, Kathua. He was the family member of bridegroom. The local people said that there was another person in the bus but he jumped from it when the bus caught fire and so he saved himself.
The bus bearing registration no JK2 AA 2797 caught fire after it had brought the baratis from village Changran Kathua to Hiranagar. The driver had parked the vehicle in the village after the baratis had gone to have the feast. However the bus caught fire under mysterious circumstances resulting into the death of one of the mentally retarded barati.
The people living in the area tried to control the fire and throw water on the bus .A fire brigade also reached on spot to control the devastating fire but by then the bus had turned into ashes.
The DySP (SDPO Border), SDM Hiranagar, Tehsildar Marheen, SHO Rajbagh , FSL team reached on the  spot and they were informed about the  incident by the locals who were present there. Police is investigating the matter and cause of the fire.
