JAMMU, May 22: Inter School District Level competitions in the disciplines of Hockey, Fencing, Football, Swimming and Rugby under-14 and under-17 boys got underway today here at KK Hakhu Astroturf Stadium, GGM Science College, Heritage School, Green Field and MA Stadium, here.
About 896 boys drawn from 14 Zones of Jammu District are taking part in the competitions, which were declared open by Chanchal Kour, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Jammu in a well attended function.
The competitions are being organized by the Department of Youth Services & Sports under the patronage of Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General Youth Services & Sports and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director.
While speaking on the occasion, DYSSO Jammu advised the students to take part in sports and games for overall development.
Meanwhile, in Rugby Under-17 boys at Green Field Gandhi Nagar, Govt High School K. Nagrota trounced MIER BC Road Jammu by 3-2 points to win the title.
In Under-14 boys Football at GGM Science College Ground Jammu, MMS Indian Public School, KC Public School, KC International School and APS Ratnuchak scripted wins over their rivals on the opening day today.
In Hockey Under-14 boys at KK Hakku Stadium, APS Miran Sahib beat APS Kaluchak by 2-0 and SOS drubbed Cybernetics Sr. Secondary School by 2-0 goals, while in Hockey Under-17 boys at KK Hakhu Stadium, SOS defeated Cybernetics Sr. Secondary School by 2-0 and APS Kaluchak trounced APS Jammu Cantt by 1-0 goal.
In Swimming Under-14 boys at Heritage Public School Jammu, the gold medal winners in various events included Mujtafa-Ul of KC Public School, Ehsaas Digra of KC Public School and Aryan of Jodhamal Public School, while in Swimming Under-17 boys at Heritage Public School Jammu, the gold medal winners included Dhairya of Jodhamal Public School, and Aamil of Heritage Public School.
In Fencing Foil Under-14 boys at MA Stadium Jammu, Rakshit Sharma of KC Public School, Tanmay Gupta of GD Goenka and Aadhar Khajuria of KV-1 Gandhi Nagar won gold, silver and bronze respectively, while in Epee event, Sufyan of Dewan Devi School won gold, Dewang of SP Smart School bagged silver and Mandeep of Dewan Devi School claimed bronze and in Sabre, Harshit of GD Goenka, Chankaya of DPS Jammu and Aryaveer of GD Goenka won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In Fencing Epee Under-17 boys at MA Stadium Jammu, Aryan Sethi of KV School Nagrota won gold, Mohit of GD Goenka bagged silver and Pragun of Nagbani School clinched bronze, while in Sabre Under-17 boys, Mayank of JK Montesoori, Suryansh of Nagbani School and Lakshya of Nagbani School won gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.
Meanwhile, at Maharaja Suchet Singh Stadium Samba, Purmandal Zone defeated Samba Zone by 26 runs in the final match of the Inter-Zonal Under-17 boys Cricket Tournament, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the overall supervision of Sunil Kumar, DYSSO Samba.
In the matches played earlier, Purmandal drubbed Ramgarh Zone by 9 runs, Samba Zone got the better of Ghagwal Zone by 3 wickets, Ghagwal Zone beat Vijaypur Zone by 37 runs.
