DEHRADUN, Aug 12: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna today honoured Vandana Kataria, the member of junior Indian women’s hockey team that recently won bronze in world championship in Germany.
Mr Bahuguna presented a cheque of Rs 2 lakh to the budding hockey player and expressed hope that she would bring many more laurels for the state and the country.
On the occasion, sports minister Dinesh Aggarwal and secretary sports Ajay Pradyot also congratulated her and wishes her a bright future.
Vandana, who has played over 25 international games, said on the occasion that she wished to become outstanding hockey Olympian and sought government support in achieving that.
Since her arrival in her home at Roshanabad village, Haridwar yesterday, Vandana is being showered with praises and rewards by prominent people.
She was welcomed at the Haridwar railway station by BHEL Ranipur MLA Adesh Chauhan.
Former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank also visited her home and gifted her Rs 5100 for her achievement.
Vandana’s father Nahar Singh is master technician in BHEL and her other siblings are also hockey players. (UNI)
