JAMMU, Sept 2:  The Department of National Security Studies, Central University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Department of International Studies and History, Christ University, Bengaluru, and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung is organizing a two-day national conference on `Emerging Trends in Non- Traditional Security: Threats and Responses’ from today.
The conference was inaugurated today by D R Kaarthikeyan, former Director of CBI and former Director-General of National Human Rights Commission. In his key-note address, he quoted many world leaders along with official facts and figures while trying to explain how ‘Non-traditional security threats’ have grown to become an unavoidable part of the security policy of every state. He also tried to explain how these threats can only be tackled with integrated co-operation among countries.
Prof Anil Joseph Pinto, Registrar of Christ University,  stated, “Higher Education in India has insulated from state-building and knowledge-building and such conferences will act as a mile-stone in repairing the damage”.
Prof Mallika Jospeh, Head, Department of National Security Studies, CUJ, while giving her remarks on the collaboration among institutes, mentioned that such a conference is a ‘first-of-its-kind’ initiative and that the exposure they provide to the participating students, scholars and researchers is unmatchable.  She also informed the audience about the second edition of this national-level conference which is to be hosted by the Department of National Security Studies, CUJ in February 2017.
The two-day conference is being attended by speakers, researchers and academicians from different parts of the country, who hold expertise in different aspects of national security.
The conference will also be presided over by Vice Admiral Vijay Shankar, former Commander-in-Chief of Andaman and Nicobar Command and former Commander-in-Chief, Strategic Forces Command, who will give the valedictory address today.
