SRINAGAR: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar arrived here this afternoon to pay homage to the India’s first Param Vir Chakra recipient Major Somnath on his 69th death anniversary in Badgam district tomorrow.
Defence officials said Mr Parikar arrived here. He will be joined by senior Army officers and other ranks to pay tribute to Major Somnath near the Srinagar airport in Budgam district.
This was the first visit of Mr Parrikar after surgical strike by Indian Army on militant camps across the Line of Control (LoC) in retaliation to fidayeen attack on Brigade headquarter at Uri in which 19 soldiers were killed and about 20 others were injured on September 18. Four Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants were also killed in the encounter. (AGENCIES)
