JAMMU, Apr 25: Agra police has arrested grandson of Dayal Bagh Santsangh Sabha president and former Director of the University (Dayal Bagh Institute) and his aide, a young Laboratory Technician for the murder of 25-year-old Jammu research scholar Neha Sharma in the University complex on March 15, 2013 in Agra.
The Police however, maintained that the investigations were on to ascertain whether the researcher of nano-technology was raped before murder or not. The doctors who performed the autopsy on the body of the victim would be consulted and a foolproof case made out before the matter would be taken to court.
Neha Sharma’s murder has baffled the police ever since the victim was found stabbed to death in the Laboratory at the private deemed university in the evening of March 15. Among the two arrested Udhay Swaroop, grandson of Prem Kumar-president of Dayalbagh Satsangh Sabha and former director of the university and Yashvir Sandhu, Lab technician. The forensic evidence has gone before the accused. Sandhu was seen by some people driving the red car of the victim, away from the campus on the same evening.
The accused have been sent to district jail. Udhay is the student of BSc Honours (final year) in the same Institute. Udhay was said to be moving unbridled on the campus and many students were unhappy with his activities while the director of the DEI, Dr V G Das had turned a blind eye towards it, the police said.
Rashpal Sharma, father of the victim, Neha Sharma, told the Excelsior that two prime accused have been arrested by police. He said Lab technician had been seen driving the car of Neha by several people within the campus on the same day. He also met several police officers in connection with the case in last over one month. He said the J&K police team officers who visited recently to Agra also met them at their residence and assured that they have taken up the matter with UP Police on behalf of J&K Police and also assured them cooperation but they also maintained that it was UP Police’s jurisdiction and only they will investigate the case.
Replying to a question, victim’s father who is ex-serviceman, hailing from Rabta Mathuar village of Akhnoor in district Jammu, said SSP Agra was himself supervising the case and after pressure from the J&K Government, the case could be solved. They had decided to approach UP Chief Minister for a CBI probe if the police failed to break the case. There was apprehension of political pressure on police as name of a family member from Ex-Director’s son was figuring in the case.
