The distance from Jammu to Udhampur and vice versa has been reduced by seven-kilometres as four Nandini Tunnels on the Jammu-Srinagar highway was today thrown open for the vehicular movement.
“The journey on 65-km Jammu-Udhampur highway and vice-versa will be now more comfortable with the opening of all the four Nandani tunnels on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway,” R P Singh, Project Director, National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) told reporters.
He was flanked by A U Mishra, Project Manager AFCONS Infrastructure Ltd. and other officials who commissioned the ‘right tube’ of tunnels, T1 to T4, in Nandani Hills for downward traffic (Srinagar to Jammu).
“The tunnels alongwith series of new brides cover only 3.60 kilometres straight area and provides smooth ride to the commuters, which have reduced the distance of about 6.8 kilometres length,” Singh added.
The Tunnel T4 has the maximum length of 540 meters followed by T3 (330 meters), T2 (300 meters) and T1 (210 meters) and constructed at a cost of Rs 101.31 crore. The tunnels are illuminated and have two lanes with footpath on both the sides.
“The commissioning of the tunnels will reduce the distance from Jammu to Udhampur and vice versa by seven-kilometres,” he added. (AGENCIES)
