SRINAGAR: In a major relief for daily wagers and casual labourers working in different departments, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday announced that 60,000 such employees will be regularised.
“Our govt will be regularising 60,000 daily wagers & casual labourers working in various departments in J&K to provide sustainable livelihoods to those who need it the most,” Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
She asserted that hard work and dedication must always be recognised and appreciated.
The announced comes about two months after the state Cabinet accepted the report of a high level committee headed by the Chief Secretary laying out a roadmap for regularisation of casual, seasonal labourers and daily rated workers.
The Cabinet had also asked the Finance Department to workout concrete measures to operationalise the roadmap to meet the long-standing demand of such engaged persons.
The decision comes as a relief for daily wagers and casual labourers, who have in the last about nine year organized hundreds of protests and hunger strike, demanding regularisation of their services.
Most of these daily wagers and casual labourers have worked in different Government departments for about 18 to 20 years. (AGENCIES)
