Khatana asks Govt to initiate relief measures for calamity victims

JAMMU, Apr 30: Expressing deep shock and grief over the tragedy inflicted by incessant rains and landslides in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Gulam Ali Khatana today asked the administrative officers to initiate the process of assessing damages caused by the calamity and provide quick relief to the victims.
In a statement issued to the media, Khatana said that Weather Department should properly forecast heavy rain and snowfall and other vagaries of nature well in time and other concerned authorities should timely evacuate the people to safer places to prevent the loss of human lives.
The MP expressed condolences with the families who lost their dear ones in the calamity and prayed to the Almighty God to grant peace to the departed souls and courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss.
The senior BJP leader said that loss of cattle like buffaloes, cows, horses, goats and sheeps in the calamity hit areas of Reasi, Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban and other places should be timely compensated as people of these areas largely depended on these cattle for their livelihood.
He further said that people affected by the land sinking in Ramban should also be rehabilitated to safer places and compensated adequately and all should be done to ensure safety to human lives.
