Leh, Dec 5: Continuing with their winning momentum Ladakh Scouts Red team with 308 points lifted the 2nd Lower Leh Councilor Archery Running Trophy 2016 yesterday. During the 20 round competition Sabu Phu Red with 291 points secured second position followed by Skara Red with 287 points claiming third position. In the Individual category Tsering Motup of Sabu Red with 100 points was judged as best Archer of the day followed by Tsewang Sangrup of Ladakh Scouts Red with 91 points second and Mohd Ariff Skara Red with 88 points on third position. Tashi Phuntsog of Ladakh Scouts Red of was also awarded for hitting the target (Tsaga) for maximum number. As many as 28 Archery team from different clubs participated in the day long tournament organized by ‘Ex-servicemen Welfare Society Deskit-Tsal (ESMWS).
Chief Guest Lower Leh Councilor P.Wangdan Shunu highly appreciated the Archers for active participation in the traditional sport to revive the historical important sport of Ladakh. He informed that Hill Council will try to promote the sport at National and International levels and in this regard he had appraised the Chief Executive Councilor for further recommendation. He also applauded the contribution of Ex-servicemen in the Diskit-Tsal where they play active role in various activities including monastery construction. He added that in the era of digital world our youth and such sport will keep them busy and he donated Rs.30,000 for the ESMWS.
Talking to media persons Ladakh Scouts team members Stanzin Wangyal stressed for the need of promoting modern Archery so that Archers get chances to participate at National level tournament and he urged the teacher to impart Modern Archery training to budding students so that they becomes professional Archers.
Expressing his gratitude to the participants for making the event successful ESMWS former President Nawang Rigzin said that fund raised from such tournament will be used for Monastery Gate construction worth Rs.15 lac and likewise last fund was used to impart computer training to student.
ESMWS President Rigzin Yangjor, Nambardar Padma Tashi and Tsogspa President were also present to grace the occasion.
