SRINAGAR, Sept 10: A militant was killed and another surrendered during an overnight operation by the security forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district in which one militant was killed last evening.
The encounter which started last evening in Barbugh area of Shopian after militants attacked an Army patrol, which retaliated killing a militant on the spot and trapping two others in a house in the village.
The operation was put on hold for the night and in the morning as the operation was resumed heavy gun fire followed in which one militant was killed. Another militant later surrendered.

A Police spokesman said that acting on a specific information, Shopian police along with 44 RR launched a cordon and search operation in Barbugh area of Shopian.
“During searches, terrorists hiding in the area fired upon the search party. Two terrorists were gunned down in this encounter who were identified as Altaf Ahmad Rather son of Mohammad Maqbool resident of Awneera Zainapora, Shopian and Tariq Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Ibrahim resident of Barbugh, Shopian and one identified as Adil Hussain Dar son of Nazir Ahmad Dar resident of Chitripora, Shopian, surrendered”, he said.
He said arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
The spokesman said that both the militants were involved in attack on SPO Khurshed Ahmad Ganaie at Bazar Imam Shahab in which case FIR number 138/17 under Section 307 RPC, 7/27 IA Act, 16 UL stands registered.
“Tariq Ahmad was also involved in attack on security force convoy at Chakoora Shopian in which , case FIR number 194/17 under Section 307 RPC, 7/27 IA, 16 UL act stands registered. He was involved in attack on SI Gowhar Ahmad Malla at Barbugh Haripora in which case FIR number 230/17 under Section 307, 326 RPC, 7/27IA Act 16 UL act already stands registered.
He was also involved in Bank robbery at Turq Wangam in which a case FIR number 6/17 under Sections 451, 392, 307, 34 RPC, 16, 38 UL Act, 7/27 IA Act already stands registered. Altaf Ahmad was involved in case FIR number 50/2017 under Section 7/27 IA Act, 16 UL Act”, the spokesman said.
