JAMMU, Mar 2: Neeraj Kundan has been elected as new State president of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), which elected its J&K office bearers today.
Mr Kundan, who is a Law student in University of Jammu, was declared elected with a huge margin of 151 votes over his nearest rival Raqeeq Khan.
Ajay Kumar, Naseeb Ali and Bisma Choudhary were elected as national delegates of J&K NSUI while Sahil Raina, Amjad Batt and Anuradha Bhagat were elected as State vice presidents.
Kamal Magotra, Avijot Singh, Shabir Choudhary and Parikshit were elected as State general secretaries while Abhishek Dogra, Ranjot Singh and Nishant Gupta have been declared elected as State secretaries.
New district presidents of NSUI were also elected. They include Sunny Parihar (Jammu), Tufail Qadir (Srinagar), Karan Singh Manhas (Kathua), Prakash (Kishtwar), Imtiyaz Khan (Rajouri) and Sajad Ahmed (Poonch).
Neeraj Kundan was polled highest number of votes 242 in the State level polls which were held in all the universities and colleges of the State February 28 and March 1 at four zonal venues (Doda, Rajouri, Srinagar and Jammu) across the State.
Neeraj Kundan replaced the first elected president of NSUI, J&K, Uday Chib who was also present on the occasion and congratulated the former.
Later, a victory rally was taken out by NSUI activists at Shahidi Chowk Jammu. Sweets were distributed and the NSUI activists danced on the drum beats.
While addressing the gathering, the newly elected NSUI president sought blessings of his mentor Shahnawaz Choudhary (PYC president) and said that he would work with the utmost dedication to uplift the standard of the students in the State.
While congratulating newly elected State president and committee of NSUI, Shahnawaz Choudhary said that it is the vision of Rahul Gandhi that a second line leadership of youth has to be created in the country.
