NW Railway gears up for fog season

JAIPUR, Nov 20: Preparing itself for the fog season this winter, the North Western Railways has put in place a host of measures like installing anti-fog devices in trains, LED-based signboards, and global positioning system-based signals to ensure safe and secure train operations.

Apart from these, the railways has also deployed detonators on tracks to caution the driver, and put the railway staffs on patrol for safe operations in foggy conditions, a senior official said.

“Signals at all the railway stations on Jaipur-Rewari and Rewari-Bhatinda sections under NWR have been equipped with global positioning system (GPS). Train drivers would get all information about the signals, level crossing and stations in advance on a display of the anti-fog device,” CPRO-NWR Tarun Kumar Jain said.

He said, all the information, would be displayed on the device and also provided through audio to the loco-pilot in the train.

Jain said glow signs with blinking LED lights were also put in place so that a train driver can seem them from a safe distance and get the idea about the signals.

Besides, the railway staff including trackmen were provided with detonators to be used on tracks to alert the driver of a moving train when required.

The detonator is placed on the rail tracks, generally in foggy conditions ahead of signal or level crossing, and it explodes when a train runs over it, alerting the driver who stops the train.

Apart from these, railway staff carry out regular patrolling after an special training.

Jaipur-Rewari and Rewari-Bhatida sections under NWR remains the most affected due to fog in winter season. (PTI)
