CHENNAI: Parts of India will be able to witness partial Solar Eclipse, but only briefly as the eclipse will occur at sunrise. North East will be able to view this better as sunrises occur earliest there and the Sun will be a little higher during eclipse, an official statement said. It said a total Solar Eclipse will be seen from some parts of the world in the early morning of March 9.

The total solar eclipse, where the Sun will be 100 per cent obscured, will only be visible from parts of Indonesia including Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi, and from locations in the Pacific Ocean.

The total eclipse will begin at 23:19 UTC on March 8, 2016 (04:49 IST March 9), and its maximum point will take place at 0159 UTC (0630 IST) on that day.

Observers in northern and eastern Australia, in South Asia, and in East Asia will be able to see a partial eclipse, the statement said. It said in Delhi, the sun rise at 0638 hrs, eclipse starts at 0640 hrs and ends at 0644 hrs, in Chennai, the sunrise at 0620 hrs, eclipse starts at 0622 hrs and ends at 0648 hrs.

No eclipse can be seen in Ludhiana, the statement said, adding that in Kolkata, the sunrise at 0551 hrs, eclipse starts at 0526 hrs, mild eclipse at 0622 hrs and ends at 0650 hrs, the statement added.(Agencies)
