Srinagar, Mar 13: Casual labourers working in Power Development Department (PDD) today staged a protest in favour of their series of demands that include regularization of services and compensation to the families of their associates killed in the line of duty.
Scores of casual labourers assembled at press enclave here and started massive sloganeering against the State Government. The protesting casual labourers were shouting slogans like ‘we want justice’ and were demanding regularization and release of withheld salaries.
The protesters said that during past many years, dozens of PDD men were killed, injured and disabled in the line of duty. They said that only in last two months, six lives were lost and their families are suffering badly due to economic crunch. The casual labourers demanded that their colleagues should be compensated at par with permanent employees in case of deaths or injuries.
They further demanded that investigation should be conducted in all the incidents and cases under section 302 should be registered. They further demanded jobs to the families of deceased non-regularized employees. As the protesting employees tried to move towards Lal Chowk, police stopped them and detained some of the protesters.
