JAMMU, Feb 18: MLA Nagrota and Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today stressed the need for speedy development of the basic civic amenities in Sidhra area in the Jammu periphery, which falls under his Assembly constituency.
Taking a three-hour extensive round of various colonies in the area along with Municipal Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation Manmohan Singh, the MLA pointed out that being in close vicinity of the capital city, a priority approach is needed for its holistic development, especially in view of the expanding local population.
Rana said the unhygienic conditions and lack of sanitation in various colonies could lead to various health problems and therefore this discipline of the municipal activity needs special attention. He also called for improvement in the drainage and the sewerage system, as also proper infrastructure for garbage disposal amongst others.
The MLA urged the Municipal administration to focus on the condition of roads, sewerage and drainage system, in the backdrop of recent torrential rains, and hoped that the JMC will work incessantly for improving civic amenities in the area.
He urged the Commissioner for constituting a special mobile squad for regular patrolling of the roads and streets in the area, to spot the sewerage overflow, broken lines, garbage dumps and other street lighting and water related problems.
The MLA and the JMC team visited Asrarabad, Numberdar Mohalla, Rajput Mohalla, Nikki Mohalla, Khad Masjid Mohalla, Waliabad, Ramdassian Mohalla in Ward No. 71.
Rana also called for devising a sanitation plan for the area in consultation with local opinion leaders, saying the people of the area would provide all necessary assistance and support for keeping their vicinity clean. “Local support and the visionary plans of the JMC will go a long way in maintaining health and hygiene”, he added.
The team comprised Khushal Chand, Joint Commissioner, Satish Wali, Executive Engineer, Kamini Kesar, Chief Enforcement Officer, Dr Anita, Health Officer besides SDPO Nagrota Amit Sharma and local leaders.
