Rs 29.14 cr annual plan approved under Horticulture Mission

JAMMU, Apr 4: An amount of Rs. 29.14 crore has been approved for the year 2013-14 under Horticulture Mission for North East & Himalayan States (HMNEH) in a meeting of the State Level Steering Committee for Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, Asgar Hassan Samoon.
Meanwhile, the consolidated action plan under HMNEH for 2013-14 will be submitted to Government of India for final approval and release of funds.
All the Committee members comprising Director (Plan-ning), Agriculture Production Department, Director (P&M), J&K, Director Agriculture, Jammu/Kashmir, Director Floriculture, Jammu/Kashmir, Director Horticulture, Kashmir (Nodal officer), Director Horticulture, Jammu and Managing Director, JK HPMC, participated in the meeting.
The approved department-wise plan under HMNEH for the year 2013-14 included Rs. 44.14 crore under MM-II, MM-III amounting Rs 7.00 crore and Rs 8.00 crore under MM-IV.
The Nodal officer for HMNEH scheme presented the annual action plan and component-wise details which were taken up for threadbare discussion.
Samoon stressed upon the need of prioritising the activities of various components to be implemented in three regions of the State i. e. Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu. He asked the concerned to ensure that the farmers adopt the latest technology woven components in their fields so that tremendous change in production of quality produce is obtained at ground level. It was also desired that the funds earmarked under the schemes are utilised timely and judiciously for the benefit of the farming community of the State.
The meeting laid emphasis on execution of MM_III and MM_IV wherein necessary infrastructure is to be created to avoid loss of Agriculture/Horticulture produce to boost economy of the State. Under floriculture sector, it was advised to the concerned HODs to introduce good quality of commercial floriculture so that this sector earns remarkable returns from its export.
