Jammu, Mar 18: Two days National Seminar on “Recent Trends in Genomics and Metabolomics” organized by the School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu concluded today. The seminar was organized as an activity supported under UGC-SAP programme of the school.
During the valedictory function of the seminar Prof. Jigar Mohammad, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu, was the chief guest. He emphasized that expression of ideas is very important for developing new vistas as utility of knowledge never diminishes. He urged all the research scholars and faculty members to actively contribute towards research.
Prof. Geeta Sumbali, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences was the guest of honour. She was of the opinion that the successful culmination of the seminar marks the beginning of many new things.
Earlier Prof. Jyoti Vakhlu, Director School of Biotechnology & Deputy Coordinator UGC-SAP programme of the School summarised the proceedings of the two days national seminar. The proceedings included invited lectures and evaluative poster session by young scientists.
Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Coordinator, UGC-SAP, School of Biotechnology informed that there were 14 invited lectures delivered by eminent scientists from outside and within the state. The invited speakers included Prof. R.N.K. Bamezai from JNU, New Delhi, Prof. S.B. Babbar from Delhi University, Prof. Arun K Sharma from University of Delhi, Prof. Pawan Dhar from JNU, New Delhi, Dr. Vikrant Sharma from Masimo Corporation, USA, Dr. Uma Shanker from Chennai, Dr. Tasduq Abdullah and Dr. Sumit Gandhi, Dr. Dhiraj Vyas, Dr. Abid Dar, Dr. Fayaz Malik from IIIM, Jammu. Dr. Audesh Bhat from CUJ, Jammu, Dr. Moni Gupta from SKUAST-Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Thusso, Dr. Narinder Bairwa from SMVDU, Katra. Besides, scientists from the state, faculty from science departments, research scholars and students were also present.
On this occasion best poster presentation awards were distributed among the researchers and M.Sc. students. Dr. B.K. Bajaj, Associate Professor School of Biotechnology presented vote of thanks. Shanu Magotra conducted proceedings of the function.
