Srinagar turns white after fresh snowfall

SRINAGAR: Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, and adjoining areas again turned white due to fresh snowfall early this morning resulting in chill.
The city, including metered areas, also are witnessing worst power curtailment in more than a decade.
Roof and tree tops were under a blanket of snow as people woke up this morning in Srinagar and adjoining areas after rain during the day yesterday.
Though roads were also under a white carpet, as the day progressed snow started melting, mainly due to plying of vehicles. Snow could be seen on open fields and vehicle tops.
Majority roads in the area were inundated badly affecting pedestrian and vehicular movement.
However, due to strike called by separatists against killing of two youths allegedly in security force action in Pulwama yesterday, majority people remained indoors. Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were also killed in the encounter with security forces.
The Met department has predicted more rain and snow during the next 24 hours in the city.
For the past more than a decade, Srinagar is witnessing worst power curtailment.
In the metered areas, people are facing six hour scheduled and several hour power cuts during the day. (AGENCIES)
