Sun out weather turns pleasant though more rain predicted

SRINAGAR :  Sun greeted people today in the Kashmir valley, where weather turned pleasant after about a week-long rain resulting in drop in the maximum temperature while the minimum temperature was above normal.
However, due to dry weather and clear sky the minimum temperature witnessed a drop in the Kashmir valley.   A Met department spokesman said weather will remain dry during the day in the Kashmir valley, where a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit tomorrow.
There could be more rain from tomorrow in the valley, he said.          After recording below normal minimum temperature during the night, people woke up to a sunny morning in the valley, where weather turned pleasant after a week-long rain, affecting normal life.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, was coldest in the valley after the mercury was recorded below normal. The maximum temperature yesterday was 5.2 degree, three notches below normal while the minimum temperature was 0.4 degree, a notch below normal.
Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine, where the annual pilgrimage will commence from July 2, also witnessed drop in the minimum temperature after recording a notch below normal maximum temperature yesterday.
Against 3.7 degree, the minimum temperature there was 1.6 degree, half a notch below normal after receiving 1.6 mm rainfall.
Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, Kokernag and Kupwara also received fresh rains resulting in drop in the mercury.
People in the summer capital, Srinagar, had a sigh of relief after weather turned pleasant with bright sunshine though winds also continued. Due to cloudy weather and traces of rain yesterday the maximum temperature 16.7 degree, 2.3 degree below normal.  However, today weather has witnessed considerable improvement.
However, minimum temperature which was above normal during the past one week, it witnessed drop again in the city due to clear sky and winds. Against yesterdays 6.9 degree minimum temperature in the city, it was 5.7 degree, more than a notch below normal. (AGENCIES)
