JAMMU, May 29: Two minor brothers drowned today in River Tawi on city outskirts while taking a bath.
“The deceased have been identified as Mohd Tariq (11) and Mohd Mudassir (7) both sons of Ghulam Hussain, resident of Bathori, Mahore in Reasi,” a police official said, adding the family was presently living at Lower Barjala, Chatha in Satwari area.
According to the official, the duo along with one other boy had gone for grazing their cattle near Nikki Tawi. He said to beat the heat, Mohd Mudassir entered into the river but started drowning as the water was very deep and he was not knowing the swimming. “Seeing his brother drowning, Mohd Tariq also dived into the river to save him but both of them drowned,” the official said.
He said the third boy informed the matter to the family members who along with other locals reached the spot. Meanwhile, local police and an SDRF team also reached the spot and with their joint efforts, both the bodies were traced and fished out from the river after over one hour struggle.
“After legal formalities, the police handed over the bodies of the deceased boys to their parents,” the official further added.
