SRINAGAR, June 8: Government today said prior to the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) only 19,720,35 families were getting ration under each category while as 11,953,162 souls are getting ration after the implementation NFSA under each category.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami in Lower House, Minister Incharge Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) said prior to the implementation of NFSA, 1972035 families were getting ration under each category including 1236035 under APL, 480270 under BPL and 255730 under AAY households.
“But, after the implementation of NFSA 7414217 PHH and 4538945 NPHH souls are getting ration, prior to NFSA 66461.49 metric tons was required and after the implementation of NFSA 62238.07 metric tons are required,” the Minister stated.
All AAY and BPL families prior to the implementation of NFSA have been categorised as PHH, he said, adding that the Deputy Commissioner have been nominated as chairman of District Level Committees and Tehsildars at Tehsil level Committees respectively for identification of family/ Souls under NFSA. “The criteria for identification of priority and Non- priority under NFSA was notified,” said the Minister.
The Minister further stated that in the year 2014 during autumn session of State Legislature, a unanimous resolution was passed regarding providing resolution of 35 Kilogram of ration at Rs. 2 per Kilogram.
“At that time the Department was providing ration to the consumers as per projected population of 2000 i.e., 99 lakh people, the distribution system was not transparent as the population in 2011 had reached to 1.25 crore and the Government of India was providing ration as per the projected population of 2000.
So there was a huge gap and as such the scale was different from region to region, area to area and the category to category in respect of APL category. However, it was maintained 35 kg to BPL/ AAY category. Government of India had already enacted NFSA in 2013 and state had already enacted NFSA in 2013 and state was asked to implement it,” the Minister stated.
