10 officers empanelled as DIGs

JAMMU, Aug 24: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs today empanelled 10 IPS officers of Jammu and Kashmir cadre in the rank of DIG and equivalent in the Government of India.
The MHA has issued a notification to this effect after the meeting of Central Police Empanellement Board (CPEB).
Apart from 10 IPS officers of Jammu and Kashmir, the officers from other States have also been empanelled in the rank of DIG and equivalent.
The IPS officers of J&K cadre empanelled as DIG or equivalent included Tsering Punchok, DIG Indian Reserve Police (IRP), an IPS officer of 1995 batch, Surinder Gupta, DIG CID, Jammu (1997 batch), Shakeel Ahmad Baig, DIG Jammu-Kathua range (1998 batch), Ahfadul Mujtaba, DIG Srinagar range (1998 batch), Mushtaq Ahmad Sadiq, DIG Security (1998 batch), Vijay Singh Samyal, SSP and Commandant IRP 10th battalion (1999 batch), JL Sharma, SSP CID (Special Branch), Jammu (1999 batch), Anand Jain, Nitish Kumar and SR Samuel, all on Central deputation and belonging to 1999 batch.
The recently held Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) had cleared the name of Tsering Punchok for promotion as IGP and Vijay Singh Samyal and JL Sharma for the posts of DIGs.
While the MHA has empanelled Mr Samyal and Mr Sharma as DIGs, they continued to work as SSPs in the State despite clearance by the DPC for their promotion as DIGs.
Six officers of 1999 batch, who have been left out by the MHA for empanellement as DIGs or equivalent rank, included Ashkoor Wani, Ali Mohammad, Manmohan Singh, Bashir Ahmad Itoo, Israr Ahmad Khan and Nissar Ahmad. First four officers left out of empanellement list were senior in the rank from Mr Samyal and Mr Sharma. Barring Manmohan Singh, all three were already working as DIGs.
Manmohan Singh was not promoted as DIG in view of an inquiry pending against him.
