POONCH, Sept 29: Chief Education Officers (CEO) Poonch, Abdul Majid Fani during surprise checking  found several teachers of various schools absent from duty on Saturday and placed them under suspension.
Mr Fani, who was recently posted as CEO Poonch after taking over the charge directed all the Zonal Education Officers to intensify checking in schools and ensure attendance of  the teachers and other staff in schools. On Saturday, he conducted surprise checking in several schools and found at least ten teachers absent from duty. Some of them had not attended the schools without informing the schools head and at several places the schools heads had not mentioned leave or absent and had kept attendance register empty. One Headmaster was also placed under suspension for this lapse and apparently giving chance to the absent teachers to mark their attendance the next day.
During checking at Govt Middle School, Dalera in Poonch, the CEO found Master Rajni Sharma and teacher Farida Begum absent from duty. He placed both of them under suspension with immediate affect and sought explanation from Headmaster and asked ZEO to charge-sheet them.
While conducting inspection at Govt High School Khanetar, the CEO  found  Daleep Kour, Rajinder Kour, Harmeet Kour- all Masters and Sarabjeet Kour- teacher absent from duty for the last three days. He also found Physical Education Master Sunita Devi and Prithpal Singh (PET) absent.  He recommended similar action against them to the Physical Education teachers to the  District Youth Services & Sports Officer Poonch and attached there.
At Govt Primary School Heelan Kalai, the CEO found Mid Day Meal incharge Master Mushtaq Ahmed missing for the last four days and the school children had not been provided meals. He was also suspended. He sought the explanation from the  ZEO concerned and the teacher over the issue.
Incharge  Govt Middle School Sheen Dharra Jan Aara was asked to explain her position, pending suspension as why she had kept attendance register blank for the three absentee teachers of the school claiming that they were on leave. The CEO sought explanation in this regard from ZEO and directed him to clear the position after verifying the facts and recommend action. These teachers if found absent, will also be placed under suspension, he maintained.
Meanwhile, the new CEO Mr Fani has appealed the teachers to do justice with their job and attend their duty in their respective schools as Government was providing them fatty salaries. Seeking cooperation from the ZEOs, he said that they should ensure attendance in schools by visiting  their areas of responsibility. And if he himself  finds such practice still prevailing during surprise checking at random, he will recommend action against the Education Officers as well.
