SRINAGAR, Aug 12: Over thousand people were hospitalized in North Kashmir’s Tregham area following consumption of water from the nearby water supply scheme.
In Zirhama area of North Kashmir’s Trehgam, water is being supplied to the inhabitants from the 25 year old water supply scheme. The locals accused that the reservoir was not cleaned since decades and in the recent past, the employees of the concerned department added that some chlorine to the water tank for the purpose of cleaning.
After consuming the water, at first around 300 people suffered from dehydration and had to be admitted in the nearby primary health centre. The toll later reached to 1000.
CMO Kupwara Dr Muneer Khwaja said that the people got infected due to the consumption of the contaminated water. He said that all the patients are now out of danger.
The samples of the water have been collected for the investigation and that the advisory has been issued to the locals to drink boiled water.
