JAMMU, Mar 2: 10th J&K UT Shooting Championship concluded at General Zorawar Singh Rifle Club Bari Brahmana, here today.
Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmed Khan was the chief guest on the closing ceremony, while Dr SD Singh Jamwal-IPS was guest of honour and Prof (Dr) Ashutosh Sharma, vice-president Indian Olympic Association and president J&K Olympic Association was the special guest. Gulchain Singh Charak, former Minister presided over the function.
Speaking on occasion, Advisor Khan lauded the efforts of organizing committee and also assured that he will extend all possible help and cooperation to the J&K Rifle Association in popularizing the Shooting sports among the youth of J&K UT.
Vishal Sharma from Kathua scored 398/400 in 10 Mtr Air Rifle Men category and Shruti Sharma from SMVDSB Katra scored 389/400 in 10 Mtr Air Rifle Women category and were among top scorers of the championship.
10 Mtr Air Pistol (Men), Vijay Kumar of J&K Police Club, Madhupal Singh of J&K Police Club and Romijit Singh of Jammu bagged gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, whereas in 10 Mtr Air Pistol (Junior Men), three top medals were won by Vanshaj Sambyal of J&K Police Club, Divyansh Singh Charak of Jammu and Sachin Sharma of SMVDSB Katra respectively and in 10 Mtr Air Pistol (Youth Men), Antas Parkash of DPS Club, Swayam Sanson and Kamaljit Singh won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively besides in 10 Mtr Air Pistol (Sub-Youth Men), Prabjot Singh of GZSC, Tanishq Singh of DPS Jammu and Vaibhav Sharma of J&K Police Club secured gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In 10 Mtr Air Pistol (Junior Women), Kavya Kochhar of J&K Police Club won gold medal, whereas in 10 Mtr Air Pistol (Youth Women), Shreya Charak of GZSC, Diya of SMDSB Katra and Meenakshi Thakur secured gold, silver and bronze medals respectively and in 10 Mtr Air Pistol (Sub Youth Women), Labibah Michelle of J&K Police Club, Vishali Sharma of SMDSB Katra and Yashika Sharma of SMDSB Katra clinched top three medals respectively.
In 10 Mtr Air Rifle (Men), Vishal Sharma of Kathua, Pranav Sambyal of J&K Police Club and Rakesh Kumar of Udhampur clinched gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, whereas in 10 Mtr Air Rifle (Junior Men), three top medals were secured by Shamsher Singh of Kathua, Nipun Singh of Kathua and Sagar Gupta of SMDSB Katra respectively and in 10 Mtr Air Rifle (Youth Men), Aditya Pratap Singh of GZSRC, Adhiraj Singh Charak of GZSRC and Arun Sharma of SMDSB Katra won top three medals respectively besides in 10 Mtr Air Rifle (Sub-Youth Men), Paras Dalbir Singh of J&K Police Club, Samarth Tuli of J&K Police Club and Akhileshwar Singh Charak of clinched gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, whereas in 10 Mtr Air Rifle (Women Senior), Priya Chib of J&K Police Club, Rashmi Verma of Jammu and Kavya Kharbanda of Jammu bagged top three medals respectively.
In 10 Mtr Air Rifle (Junior Women), Sharuti Sharma of SMVDSB Katra, Himanshi Agarwal of Jammu and Charanpreet Kour of Kathua succeeded to win gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, whereas in 10 Mtr Air Rifle (Youth Women), Pragya Verma of SMVDSB Katra won gold medal and in 10 Mtr Air Rifle (Sub Youth Women), the gold medal was won by Raveena Jangid of SMVDSB Katra besides in 50 Mtr Rifle (Men) Prone, top three medals were clinched by Surinder Singh, Mohd Younas and Avinash Basotra of J&K Police respectively.
In 25 Mtr Pistol (Men), Abhay Gupta of Jammu stood first, whereas in 50 Mtr Pistol (Men), Abhay Gupta of Jammu remained first.
Gulchain Singh Charak also briefed about the General Zorawar Singh Rifle Club and its objective for the promotion and development of games in general and Shooting in particular in J&K UT and further stated that very soon General Zorawar Singh Rifle Club will be installing electronic shooting lanes for shooters to compete at National and International levels.
The matches were conducted by Surjit Singh, Tarun Dev Singh, Vishal Mehra and Anu Sharma under the supervision of Rajesh Virdhy (chairman technical committee).
