12-member Mountaineering team leaves for Bhaderwah

JAMMU, Apr 30: 12 members including 3 girls of Jammu division of Mountaineering Association of J&K left today for Bhaderwah to attend Basic Course in Mountaineering being organized by Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Pahalgam.
The members from the Kashmir division will also attend the Course.
All the 24 members have been sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
The 26 day course will be conducted by the Institute from May1 to May 26, 2014 at Bhaderwah and Pahalgam. During the course the trainees will undergo physical conditioning, toughening up exercises and extensive rock climbing during the first 10-12 days at Bhaderwah after which they shall be taken to Pahalgam where they shall be imparted training in the basic techniques of snow and ice craft and rock climbing at high altitude during the next about 2 weeks. On completion of training the participants shall be taken for height gain up to an altitude of about 17000ft.
The team which left Jammu today included Shawetica Khajuria, Shilpa Charak, Aman Arora and Ambreen Fatima of Jammu district, Vikrant Slathia, Sahil Slathia, Manik Slathia and Shubam Slathia of Samba district; and Anish Sharma, Yasser Hamid, Varun Lasotra, and Gulair Singh of Reasi District.
Prominent among others present at the send off function included Ram Khajuria, General Secretary and Yogeshwar Kumar, Vice President of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Rahul Sharma, Director, Sprawling Buds School, Chinore and Navneet Gupta, Secretary Snow Trail Mountaineers, Jammu.
