12 Post Offices being modernized in Jammu

JAMMU, July 12: A modern and new-look Post office at Jammu Market was dedicated to the people by Chief Post Master General, Jammu & Kashmir at a function held here today.
Speaking on the occasion, John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, (J&K) said that as a part of Post Office Transformation Plan, Post offices in J&K are being upgraded to make them customer friendly and relevant to meet the needs of the people. Jammu Market Post office will function as a computerized post office offering speed post, Registered post, post office savings bank and Post shop facilities.
In Jammu city, 12 post offices have been identified for modernization and this is the fourth post office to be dedicated during this year. Mr Samuel announced that Jammu Cantonment Post office & Jammu University post office shall also be modernized and dedicated to the people shortly. Similarly, the Department has plans to upgrade 12 Post offices in Srinagar town and as a part of this plan, Jawahar Nagar Post office & Rajbagh PO in Srinagar has already been dedicated during current year. Lal Chowk Post office will be made into Tourist Post office with Post shop facilities during the next month. With the Post office transformation plan, the people in Jammu and Kashmir state will get 250 fully-computerized and modern post offices across the State.
Chief Postmaster General informed that Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle has registered a growth of 22.5% for the year 2011-2012 in the financial services as compared to the previous year. This is the highest ever achievement in Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle so far.
