12 yrs RI in kidnapping, rape of minor

JAMMU, Oct 23: Presiding Officer Fast Track Court, Sanjeev Gupta today awarded 12 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 27000 to Jagjeet Rai, son of Ram Saroop of Khalas Kullian, RS Pura, who was facing trial in kidnapping and rape with minor.
According to the police case, on October 21, 2006 father of the prosecutrix lodged a written report with R S Pura Police that his daughter had been enticed away by the accused to some unknown place. On this, police registered a case and recovered prosecutrix and presented challan in the court of law.
After hearing Public Prosecutor GS Charak for the State whereas Advocate Vivek Sharma for the accused, Presiding Officer Fast Track Court observed, “rape is a heinous offence, a crime against society and dignity. Though the award of maximum punishment may depend upon the circumstances of the case, the award of minimum punishment generally is imperative”.
Accordingly, Court awarded 12 years RI to the accused.
