13th Police Martyr’s Memorial NZ T-20 Cricket C’ship commences

KATHUA, Dec 18: The 13th Police Martyr’s Memorial North Zone T-20 Cricket Championship 2024-25 was inaugurated today at Sports Stadium, Kathua by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Anand Jain. The event was graced by dignitaries, including DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma and SSP Kathua Shobhit Saxena.
Jain paid heartfelt tributes to the brave police martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He stated that Jammu and Kashmir Police would always honour their sacrifices and continue promoting sports to channelize the energy of youth in positive directions.
He appreciated the District Police Kathua and Shaheed Welfare Committee for organizing the mega cricket championship in the memory of police martyrs. The championship will feature a total of 16 teams, and the tournament will follow a league format up to the quarter-finals, with knockout rounds thereafter.
SSP Kathua Shobhit Saxena briefed the audience about the history of the championship, which began in 2010. The Chairman of the Shaheed Welfare Committee extended thanks to the chief guest, Kathua Police, and sponsors for their support in organizing the event.
The inauguration was attended by several prominent figures, including DC Kathua Rakesh Minhas, Principal PTS Kathua Manjit Kour, SP Operations Kathua Kandi Nasir Khan, Additional SP Kathua Rahul Charak, DySP DAR Kathua Subash Chander, DySP Headquarters Kathua Manjeet Singh, DySP PC Kathua Tilak Raj Bhardwaj, retired police officers, families of police martyrs and sponsors of the championship.
Meanwhile, LB Shastri Delhi defeated Sabi CC Hoshiarpur in the opening match of the 13th Police Martyr’s Memorial North Zone T-20 Championship. Sabi CC set a target of 98 runs, scoring 97/10 in 20 overs. LB Shastri chased down the target in 16.1 overs, winning by 8 wickets. Vikas Dixit was named as Man of the Match for his 26 runs and 3 wickets.
