14 quarantined students stranded in Amritsar

Srinagar, Apr 3: Fourteen Kashmiri students who have completed two weeks mandatory quarantine are stranded in Amritsar as Government of Jammu and Kashmir has refused to allow their entry into the Union Territory.

These students who are pursuing their education in various Medical Colleges of Pakistan crossed the Wagah border on March 18 and were sent to 14 day quarantine by the Punjab Government.
Baziga Khan, one of the students told Excelsior over phone that they are now stranded in the quarantine centre since April 1 after they completed mandatory quarantine.
She said that they were being regularly examined by the medical teams of the Punjab Government and they have also been issued quarantine certificate by the Government.
She said that Punjab Government is ready to send them home but Government of Jammu and Kashmir has refused to allow them to enter the UT.
Khan said that 29 people from different States who also crossed into India along with them reached home after they left the quarantine centre on April 1. “We also want to go home as we have completed quarantine. We have been issued quarantine certificate by Punjab Government”, she said.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Om Prakash Bhagat, told Excelsior that since there is lockdown no one is allowed to enter Jammu and Kashmir. “They should remain there till the lockdown is over. We will not allow them as there are clear directions. Let us see if all goes well, then they can come after April 14”, he said.
