JAMMU, Dec 28: 15th State Yoga Championship concluded here today at Tiny Tots Higher Secondary School, Sainik Colony, here in which more than 100 students from all parts of J&K participated.
The Championship was declared open by the president J&K Yoga Association and vice president Yoga Federation of India, Deepak Handa.
During the Championship students from all age groups displayed different Asanas which were appreciated by the audience. These candidates were selected on the basis of their performance in the District Yoga Championship and the best of these would be selected for the National Yoga Championship to be held in January next year.
Prof Ashutosh spoke about the importance of the sport at both the state, national and the international level and welcomed the guests.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Ch Lal Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. He praised the efforts of the students and the coaches of yoga.
He stressed that yoga is foremost important in the growth of a human body at any stage of life.
He further stressed that the students need to improve their eating habits and they should eat homemade food rather than junk food as the majority of deficiencies found in the children are due to their eating habits and poor exercise habits.
MLC Surinder Chowdhary was the guest of honour in his speech said he was astonished to see the talent in the students of the State, he assured all possible help for upliftment of the Yoga.
Other prominent dignitaries present included Veena Handa, chairperson Handa College of Education, Deepali Handa, Director Tiny Tots Group of Schools, Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Chairman of Affiliation Committee of Indian Olympic Association and general secretary Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association, Member J&K State Sports Council, Ranjeet Kalra, Deepali Handa, Director Tiny Tots Group of Schools and a galaxy of Sportspersons among many others.
The gold medal winners in various age groups were Tania of Jammu (8 to 11 years); Simran Kumari of Jammu (11-14), Harshita Sharma (14 to 17); Riya Gupta of Jammu (17 to 21); Shagun Gupta of Jammu (21 to 25); Munish Sharma of Udhampur (11 to 14); Ketan Sharma of Jammu (11 to 14); Divya Sagar of Jammu (14 to 17) and Ankleshwar of Jammu (17 to 21).
The Championship was officiated by Surinder Pathak, Mukesh Sharma, Vishal Sharma and Shamsher Singh.
