160 kanal forest land retrieved in Jammu, Kishtwar

JAMMU, Oct 9: The Forest Department  teams during separate operations in Kalidhar Range of Jammu Division and Kishtwar and Marwah Forest Divisions of  district Kishtwar retrieved nearly 160 kanal of forest land today.
Offcial sources said that  in an anti-encroachment drive, the Divisional Forest Officer Jammu Dr VS Senthil Kumar, constituted a team comprising of Goga Ram Range Officer Kalidhar,  two Foresters and field staff to remove the encroachment from Compartment No. 26/K at village Basyara in tehsil Akhnoor.
The staff faced stiff resistance however, was able to retrieve 68 Kanals of forest land from the possession of one encroacher. The whole operation was carried out under the supervision of BM Sharma, Conservator of  Forests, East Circle Jammu.
The team also removed the brush wood fencing, some crop and retrieved the  land from  the illegal possession of one  Jagdish Raj. The DFO  directed the field staff to fence the cleared area. He mentioned that encroachment is of very old in nature the case was registered in Forest Department in the year 1987-88 and it is a great achievement by the Forest Department where old recorded encroachment has been removed and land taken back by the department.
Meanwhile, another team of Kishtwar Forest Division under the supervision of DFO Sunil Singh removed encroachment  on  42 Kanals of Forest land in Nagseni and Faggumarh area in Kishtwar.
Forest officials’ team of  Kishtwar Forest Division led by Range Officer, Nagseni removed 40 Kanals of old encroachment over Forest land in Forest Compartment 19/Nagseni near village Nagra and 2 Kanals in Compartment 20/Nagseni at Wanpatoo. In another operation, Range Officer, Soil Kishtwar dismantled one Kachha “Kotha” constructed at village Fagumarh in Forest Compartment  67/Kishtwar.
The entire operation was carried under close supervision of Conservator of Forests, Chenab Circle, M P Dogra.
In yet another operation, the Forest team under the supervision of DFO Marwah Vijay Kumar, launched operation in Compartments  13/D, 14/D and  15/ D near Lopara in Marwah and retrieved 50 kanals of Forest land.  The land  was illegally occupied and cultivated by the villagers. The brush brushwood fencing raised by the land grabbers was also destroyed.
