17 bovine animals rescued, 2 smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Sept 29: Continuing its drive against bovine smuggling, Udhampur Police today arrested two smugglers and rescued 19 animals under the jurisdiction of Police Stations Rehmbal and Chenani.
Based on reliable information, a Police party from Chenani Police Station, led by SHO Kewal Kishore Gupta laid a surprise naka on the National Highway near Domail, Chenani and intercepted one truck bearing registration number JK02T-6571, which was on its way from Jammu towards Kashmir. During the thorough search, 13 bovine animals were found packed inside this vehicle. Police arrested the accused smugglers namely Manzoor Ahmed of Batra Jammu and rescued the animals.
In another case, a Police party from Rehmbal laid a surprise naka on the National Highway near Phalatta Udhampur and intercepted one Mahindra Vehicle bearing registration number JK02AX-1386. Four bovine animals were found packed inside this vehicle. The accused smuggler namely Mohd Iqbal of Maitra Ramban was arrested on the spot and bovine animals were rescued. The vehicle used was also seized.
