JAMMU, May 17: A unique initiative taken by the Jammu district administration has helped 17 border youth to get recruited in the Army.
The Jammu district administration few months back had started six training centres—one in each border sub-divisions of Arnia, R S Pura, Mandal, Marh, Akhnoor and Khour. These centres were named as C-BYTE (Centre for Border Youth Training and Empowerment) and retired Army men were roped in to provide physical and other trainings to the border youth so as to facilitate them to clear the tests for recruitment in the Army as soldier.
After being trained in these centres, several border youth took part in the recruitment process initiated by the Army out of which 58 cleared the physical tests. Thereafter Army conducted written test on April 24 in which 26 of such trained youth appeared.
Now, as per the result declared by the Directorate of Army Recruitment for Samba, 17 have finally made it to the Army as soldiers. The result of remaining 34 will come only after they appear in the written test to be conducted on May 29.
Within a short span of few months, the unique initiative of the district administration has yielded encouraging results. The centres are having one huge ground provided by the Army for improving the physical endurance of the candidates and one centre for academic skills. The project has been started keeping in mind the burning desire in the border youth to get entry into Army.
