17th Reasi District Open Fencing C’ship culminates

REASI, Mar 23: The 17th Reasi District Open Fencing Championship culminated today with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. Organized by the Reasi District Fencing Association (RDFA) under the Jammu and Kashmir Fencing Association (JKFA), the event saw 70 participants from various clubs and educational institutions competing in multiple categories.
The championship culminated with thrilling final bouts, where Sohit Thakur claimed the Gold Medal in Junior Epee Boys by defeating Rinku Manhas by 10-08, while in Senior Foil Boys, Manjot triumphed over Vikas Kumar by 10-06 to secure the Gold.
Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Reasi, Kuldeep Raj Dubey, graced the event as the chief guest and praised the efforts of the organizers, athletes, and coaches. He emphasized the importance of sports in youth development and assured continued support for infrastructure and training facilities to help fencers reach greater heights.
In the competition, the winners included Vidhi (Gold in Under 10 Foil Girls), Shivanshika (Silver in Under 10 Foil Girls), Kanish (Gold in Under 10 Sabre Boys), Agastaya (Silver in Under 10 Sabre Boys), Hayan (Gold in Under 10 Foil Boys), Aadeesh (Silver in Under 10 Foil Boys), Sakshi Bhagat (Gold in Under 10 Epee Girls), Sumeksha Bharti (Silver in Under 10 Epee Girls), and Harleen (Gold in Under 10 Sabre Girls). Other notable winners included Yuvraj (Gold in Under 14 Sabre Boys), Ikjas (Gold in Under 14 Foil Boys), and Priyanshi (Gold in Junior Foil Girls). In senior categories, the winners were Anjali Devi (Gold in Senior Foil Girls), Tariq Hussain (Gold in Senior Epee Boys) and Ajay Singh (Gold in Senior Sabre Boys).
The event concluded with a vibrant prize distribution ceremony, recognizing the winners with medals and certificates, further highlighting the growing popularity of fencing in Reasi and the district’s commitment to nurturing sports talent among the youth.
