Srinagar, Mar 25: Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Shah Faesal, today placed 18 teachers of Government Girls High School Bemina – which has shown zero percent performance in last two years – under suspension for skipping their classes.
DSEK Shah Faesal told Excelsior that today he visited GHS Bemina and was astonished to see all 18 teachers warming themselves in single staff room. “Instead of being present in their classes, they were warming up. They had skipped classes on one or another pretext,” he said, adding that all of them have been placed under suspension.
The Director said that the school has a roll of 118 students and has shown zero percent results for last two years. “We were constantly receiving complaints against the school teachers and today we took an action against them,” he said. He added that the performance of the school students can be gauged from the fact that Class 4 and 5 children could not even write ‘twenty five divided by four’ what to speak of solving it.
“These poor kids are not at fault but their teachers. When these teachers skip classes these things are bound to happen,” he said, adding that apart from suspension the salaries of these 18 teachers would not be released till they improve learning levels of the students. Earlier, the DSEK took to social networking site, Facebook, to express his resentment over the poor performance of the GHS Bemina children and castigated teachers.
“My heart cried. I refuse to believe that in a time when we are talking so much about reform, teachers continue to be this indifferent and callous. Is Education Department only for teachers, for transfer and postings, for salaries and promotions? Is our conscience dead, is there no shame left in us, someone help me find answers,” the DSEK Shah Faesal said in a post.
The DSEK said that besides poor education performance the school was littered with garbage including polythene. “This is one of the dirtiest schools in Kashmir valley,” he said, adding that the teachers of this school never bothered to ask students to start ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. When enquired about non-teaching staff including sweeper in the GHS Bemina, the DSEK said: “My concern is teaching staff and I have taken action against them.” “These kinds of inspections would also continue in future,” he added.
