POONCH, Apr 14: The 1st District Poonch Kalarippayattu Championship 2025-26 concluded at Indoor Sports Complex, Poonch, marking a significant milestone for the promotion of traditional Indian martial arts in the region. The championship saw enthusiastic participation from around 100 young athletes representing various schools across the district, each showcasing remarkable skill, discipline and sportsmanship.
Organized by the District Poonch Kalarippayattu Association, the event aimed to foster interest in Kalarippayattu and provide a professional platform for budding martial artists.
The valedictory function was graced by Rajesh Raina, former BJP District President, who attended as the chief guest. Irshad Azam, Principal of Hackia International School, joined as the guest of honour. Other distinguished guests included Saad Chouhan, Anil Sharma and Pervaiz Malik Afridi, Senior Cricket Coach of District Poonch. Rudrakshit Gupta, Executive Member of the Kalarippayattu Association of J&K, served as the special invitee and observer for the championship.
The competition was held under the technical supervision of Abhay Raina, Secretary of the District Poonch Kalarippayattu Association, with valuable assistance from Ashiq Hussain. In his address, Rajesh Raina lauded the efforts of the Association in promoting Kalarippayattu among the youth and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in nurturing future champions.
