1st Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Open Hockey Tourney begins

JAMMU, Sept 24: Veteran National Hockey player Dharam Pal Singh from Punjab along with Rajinder Singh Kuku, General Secretary Hockey India today inaugurated 1st Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Open Hockey Tournament for women, being played at KK Hakku Hockey stadium, here today.
This is the first hockey tournament for women organized in J&K by Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation under the aegis of Hockey J&K. This will boost the popularity of Hockey among the women in J&K.
A total of 12 teams from Jammu, Poonch, Kathua, Udhampur and Akhnoor are participating in the tournament.
The inaugural match was played between Bandhu Rakh Hockey Club and Army Public School Akhnoor which was won by later by the margin of 0-2. First goal was scored in 15 minute of game by Preety Kalotra of APS Akhnoor and 2nd goal was netted by Komal in in the 45th minute of the game.
In 2nd match, Sham Lal Sharma Hockey Club Poonch defeated Hiranagar Hockey Club by five goals to zero. The first goal was scored by Jaspreet Kour in the 1st minute of the game, second goal was netted by Abhilove in 5th minute, 3rd goal was scored by Meenakshi in the 18th minute, 4th goal was scored by Urvashi in the 30th minute whereas 5th goal was scored again by Meenakshi in the 35th minute of the game.
Hockey sticks were distributed by Hockey J&K to the budding female players from Hiranagar.
Dr Taran Singh General Secretary Hockey J&K, BS Bakshi Former General Secretary Hockey J&K, Dr Ashok Sharma and Dr Vinod Sharma prominent social workers were prominent present among others.
The umpires in the 1st match were Baljit Kour and Anjali and the technical officer was NIS coach Gurmeet Kour. For the 2nd match, the umpires were Gurmeet Kour and Anjali, while the technical officer was NIS Coach Veena Chib.
In tomorrow fixture, KK Hockey Club Senior will clash with Royal Hockey Club Junior, while Royal Hockey Club Senior and KK Hockey Club Junior.
