KARGIL, Oct 16: The 1st UT Ladakh Boxing Championship concluded with great success at the SAI Training Centre in Kargil. Over 100 athletes from Kargil and Leh districts participated in the three-day event, which was organized by the Ladakh Amateur Boxing Association.
The closing ceremony was graced by Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, who praised the efforts of the Ladakh Boxing Association in organizing the first-ever boxing championship in the Union Territory. He expressed pride in the achievements of local athletes and acknowledged the role of LAHDC Kargil in supporting sports development in the region.
Special mention was made of Tenzing Chogyal, Secretary General of the Ladakh Amateur Boxing Association, and Ladakh’s International Referee NTO official at the Women’s World Boxing Championship, for their contributions to the sport. Dr. Akhoon also highlighted developmental projects by LAHDC aimed at improving sports infrastructure in Kargil.
Prof. Nasir Shabani, along with other dignitaries, distributed medals to winners and mementos to participants and guests. The Most Promising Player awards were presented to Willayat Ali and Nusrat Fatima, both from the remote village of Parkachik. Tenzing Chogyal expressed gratitude to SAI Kargil and the supporting officials, crediting them for the smooth execution of the event.
