JAMMU, July 29: Two minor boys were among four persons rescued by Army from the flash flood in river Tawi this afternoon.
These persons belonging to Gujjar family had gone to the river side for grazing their cattle. Suddenly water level started rising in the river due to rain on the higher reaches. They along with their 35 buffaloes got trapped at a small dry portion in the middle of the river near Beli Charna and started crying for help. The locals approached police at around 9.30 am and some policemen reached at the river bank.
On getting information about the incident, SSP Jammu Atul Goel sought Army help to rescue trapped civilians and deputed SHO Satwari Ghulam Hassan Kamaal to the spot.
A team of Army led by Lt Col Ravindra along with a boat started operation at around 11 am and rescued all the four persons after providing life saving jackets in nearly two- hour operation. The cattle also returned safely after the water level receded.
Those rescued were identified as Mohd Ali, Farzand Ali and their two minor children- Shakeel and Talib in the age group of 8 and 9 years. They hailed from Karnaile Chak area near Falain Mandal.
