2 casual workers attempt self immolation during protest

DODA, Oct 8: Demanding release of pending wages, two casual workers of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department attempted self immolation during protest here today.
Demanding release of their pending wages, a large number of casual workers of PHE Department assembled here and raised slogans against the department and the Government.
During protest, two casual workers poured petrol on their bodies and tried self immolation.
However, their colleagues immediately shifted them to District Hospital Doda, where their condition was stated to be stable, when last reports came in.
The protesting workers were demanding immediate release of their pending wages.
“We are facing lot of difficulties due to delay in the release of our pending wages. Due to financial crises, our families are at the verge of starvation, but the Government is not taking immediate steps to release our pending wages”, a protesting worker said.
He demanded release of their pending wages viz regularization.
After getting information, officials from the district administration rushed to the spot and assured the protesting workers of taking up their demands with the concerned authorities for redressal.
On the assurance, the protesting workers dispersed.
