2-day workshop begins at BGSBU

Rajouri, May 11: Two-days workshop on “Science Technology and Community Wisdom: J&K Himalaya” has been organized in Centre for Biodiversity Studies, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in collaboration with Rural Technology Action Group (Ru TAG) Chapter, University of Jammu, and Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO), Dehradun, Uttarakhand on 11th & 12th of May. Representatives of various Non – Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil society, researchers, scholars and students are participating in the event.
During the inaugural function today, Padamshree Dr. Anil P. Joshi, founder of HESCO emphasized upon empowerment of rural masses for economic prosperity of the region, State and nation. Dr. Joshi stressed that time has come to use experience of rural people to undertake technological innovations to ameliorate the miseries including poverty. He also emphasized upon the University to start a Rural Technology Department so that experience of rural people can be used to devise methods and technology for economic upliftment, conservation of natural resources and promotion of ethnicity.
Inaugural address was given by Vice Chancellor, BGSBU, Rajouri, Prof. Javed Masarrat who laid emphasis on adopting technology relevant for addressing issues of rural India. He emphasized that University should adopt villages in its vicinity so that people get aware about the technical solutions for rural problems.
Prof. G. H. Dar, Director CBS and Dean School of Biosciences and Biotechnology, listed the issues of Rajouri, Poonch region which need technological inputs for solution. Prof. M.K Dhar, coordinator RuTAG Chapter University of Jammu, gave a detailed  account of  the RuTAG activities in J&K in general and Jammu region in particular.
Plenary lecture of the workshop was given by Professor A. K. Koul, Dean Academic Affairs, a well known Botanist and Educationist who gave a detailed account of the issues of the Himalayan States and what measures can be taken to address them.
Dr. Susheel Verma, Coordinator for the workshop, proposed the vote of thanks and Dr. A. A. Shah conducted the programme.
