2 drug peddlers arrested with 413 kgs poppy straw

JAMMU, July 6: The sleuths of Special Operation Group (SOG) Jammu and cops from Police Post Bhatindi under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested two drug peddlers and recovered large quantity of poppy straw from their possession.
This was stated by Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar while interacting with media persons, here late night.
He informed that a joint checking point was established by sleuths of SOG Jammu and Police Post Bhatindi at Sunjwan Morh and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK03B-0928.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape from the spot, but the cops intercepted the truck after a brief chase, SP said, adding that during checking, the cops recovered 413 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested two persons.
SP informed that the arrested persons have been identified as Umar Riaz, son of Riaz Ahmed of Vuyam Pampore and Sabir Khan, son of Abdul Majeed of Amb Gharota Jammu.
A case under FIR Number 177/18 under Section 8/21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Bahu Fort Police Station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment, SP stated.
Police team led by Incharge Bhatindi Police Post SI Rakesh Roshan made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO East Vipan Chandran, Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
