2 girls die after drowning in pond

SAMBA, Sept 19: Two teen age girls drowned in a pond in village Sumbli of Samba district today. The duo was washing their clothes and bathing in the pond. They were the students of Government Higher Secondary School Khada Madana.
They have been identified as Sofia Malik, daughter of Late Nek Mohammed a student of 9th class and Rabia Chouhan, 17, D/O Abdul Ghani and a student of 12 th class. Both are the residents of Sumbli falling in the jurisdiction of Purmandal Police Station.
Both the girls were fished out from the pond by the help of local volunteers and handed over to family members for last rites after completion of all legal formalities.
The people of the area said that the water level has increased in the pond three times after recent rains.
Police said that one girl first went to take a bath in the pond as she slipped the another tried to save her and she too jumped in the pond and both of them drowned as the water level was deep. A pal of gloom descended the village after the tragedy.
