Man shot at in Sopore

SRINAGAR, May 28: Two militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) including a foreigner were killed in an encounter with security forces in the forest area of Anantnag district in South Kashmir today.
Army’s 19 RR, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police today cordoned off the forest area which is situated between the two villages of Kharpora and Kashwan in Kokernag in Anantnag district.
Security forces launched the operation on specific information about the presence of militants hiding in the area. As the searches were being conducted, militants fired at the troops leading to a gun battle in which two militants were killed.

The bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. One of them has been identified as Faisal Nazir son of Nazir Ahmad of KP Road Anantnag. He had done B Tech and had joined militancy last month. Another is an unknown Pakistani militant.
One AK-47 rifle, one pistol and two grenades were recovered from the encounter site. Police said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.
“Pertinently, with the efforts of police and security forces, it was a clean operation and no collateral damage took place during the exchange of fire”, Police said.
A man was shot at by militants at Zaloora village of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district this evening.
Militants fired upon a man identified as Feroz Ahmad Gojri, 34, at his home in Zaloora village. Feroz received two bullets in his thighs. He was rushed to district hospital Handwara for treatment.
Security forces reached the spot and launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area to nab the assailants.
Police today fired teargas to quell a protest by the students of Islamia College Srinagar in Hawal area of the city. Students came out of the campus and protests against killing of Zakir Musa. Security forces fired teargas to disperse them and students pelted stones on the security forces. Ding dong battles between students and security forces continued for hours.
Clashes broke out today between security forces and students of Government Degree College Sopore over the last week’s killing of commander Zakir Musa.
Shouting slogans, scores of students assembled in college premises and later marched outside and clashed with police and paramilitary men. As the students pelted stones on security forces they responded by firing tear smoke shells.
Clashes also broke out at Ganderbal Degree College after students came out of the campus to protest against the killing of Zakir Musa.
Earlier, authorities had suspended the class work at various schools and colleges to prevent students from staging protests.
