SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Two persons today died after the car, they were travelling in, skidded off a bridge and fell into a nallah in Kralpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
At least five persons were travelling in a white coloured Alto car (HR51-7420) which met with an accident and initially a 23-year-old woman died while four others were injured.
Later, one more person among the injured succumbed to his injuries after he was referred to SMHS hospital for further treatment, taking the death toll to 2.
The deceased have been identified as Uzma (23) daughter of Mohammad Iqbal of Kralpora and Mohammad Maqbool Bhat (55).
Officials said that the white colour Alto vehicle (HR51-7420) fell into the water body at 0710 hours.
They said that the Army’s Road Opening Party from Panzgam artillery unit along with TA Battalion and locals immediately swung into action and started a rescue operation.
“The doors of the car and windshield were broken to pull out the travellers-three men and two women-from inside the car,” eyewitnesses said.
Those injured have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Beigh (45), Asif Ahmad Bhat (20) and Sabeena Begam (40), all residents of Kralpora were later referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
